That's how lazy sportswriters operate, too -- e.g., team X needs a quarterback -- if they trade up and grab the 4th rated QB, then they had an A draft because they filled their biggest need. See Vikings this year. The lazy sportswriters are projecting that the Vikings and Raiders are after McCarthy or Nix, who project as busts to me. Teams would be wise to defer taking the high-risk QBs until the risk/reward makes more sense. I wouldn't touch either guy until the 3rd round.

Nix has a lot of footwork issues from the little bit I've watched.  I guess it could be corrected, but I'd take Penix over him.  Penix has started getting mocked into the 1st round over the past week or two as well.
Not sure where to bring this up at so I’ll just throw this in here. Balkie made tmz for his news conference fart.

#Only just cause jags

Hopefully he does better in the draft.

Hehe, PFT has a whole article praising Baalke for letting one go. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootbal...eak-stride

Or Christian Haynes.

Or Graham Barton.

Or Tuliese Fuaga.

There's a dozen of them if we make the call.

I doubt all of them will be Hall of famers and multiple times pro bowlers.

My point was that you can't pick a Martin unless you actually pick a lineman. As Michael Jordan said, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Clearly that's a draft of a different sort.

That isn't what I said, what I said was you have to take a lineman in order to have a Zack Martin. We found a Tristan Wirfs a few years back...too bad he's playing for another team. Same with finding a Justin Jefferson, we found one of those also...but took K'Lavon Chaisson instead. You can't draft the best guard in the league if you don't actually draft a guard.

That's why I feel like they want to draft a guard with a high pick (first two rounds) to replace Scherff.
Good in pass block, mediocre in run block.
It was also difficult for him to play between a pretty bad center and a rookie who need to improve his run blocking.
But at this point of his career, Scherff should be a back up.

Cooper Beebe with the 2nd round pick would be ideal IMO.

always better to get [fart noise] out of the way before the team makes their first round pick. Kinda the opposite of what happened when we took guys like Taven Bryan and Klavon Chiasson

Nix is a poor man's Mitch Trubisky. I remember how bad he was at Auburn; then he goes to a gimmicky offense and the rest is history.

He entered the portal at AU because they would not let him and his dad pick the new OC when they changed head coaches. I wonder if he will do the same in the pro's

Shatley back

https://x.com/Demetrius82/status/1781391894339068266

I'm a little mixed on the Shatley signing.   If there is little to no guaranteed money, it doesn't hurt to have more depth on your 80 man roster.  However, if this is a signal that the Jaguars don't plan to draft an IOL, I don't like it.

This is worrisome.
Shatley is Mr. dependable in a pinch.

They probably plan to, but you can only draft what’s there, this just gives them a safety blanket. Nothing more complicated than that

At this point Shatley is more like a sparring partner.

But he is not safety blanket.  For one, they have been playing him out of position since Doug arrived.  He was good depth until Doug or Rauscher whichever one moved him to guard.  If you can't beat out Fortner you aren't a safety blanket you are a liability and a Hazzard to Trevor

I am hoping he is a practice squad veteran.

I can't imagine there will be much, if any, in guarantees.  Will be interesting to see the details when they are made public.
