Surprised if we are trading for Aiyuk that we didn’t decide to go after Tee Hig

Aiyuk > Tee

But Tee is taller and has the familiarity with Trevor. I'd be happy with either.

But my gut says we don't make a trade at all and address it somewhere in the draft.

We're drafting a corner with the 1st pick.  Resigning Josh...  Is that all people are expecting to improve the defense that disappeared for the last 7 games?  The Jags still need TWO dogs on defense and people are trying to bring in another WR after the Jags just signed two, and will probably draft another with one of their top 3 picks this year.

NOT IF WE SCORE POINTS!!!

Our offense was the huge let down last year. It was about Offensive line play and sorry to bring it up once more but play calling.

In all seriousness though, with Nielson I think the defense will be much improved with what we have and already brought it.

Savage is an upgrade
Darby is a wash at worst
Antonio Johnson will be out there, presumably at NCB right now. He made a lot of splash plays in limited time last year.
Allen and Walker should feast in this scheme

Really the only glaring need to upgrade is IDL, which we will in some way.

If the offense was more efficient last year we would have had 3-4 more wins even with the struggles we had at some points defensively.

IDL may upgrade on its own a bit too if Hamilton comes back to form.

I agree with the bolded, would be nice to have Ridley but he would be a luxury. I think our needs are #1 DL(all positions), #2OL(all interior positions), #3CB, 4#WR.

I trust WAY MORE in a Doug led offense with bad recievers than our defense with bad corners( BTW I think we have a good WR group).

But none of this matter if our lines aren't fixed

Scheme will only get you so much if the defense doesn't have the players.

Using your logic, we should be much better scheming now that Doug has taken back exclusive control.   I mean, the offense was 10th in the league the year before we got Ridley...so I'm thinking you're probably right.

But the defense...still only has one Alpha (Josh) and one could be alpha (Treyvon)...and I'd argue that the overall defensive side hasn't been good for two seasons.   Yes, Oluokun makes lots of tackles...Josh has figured out what side to blitz from to get tackles...but in generally the defense is still light in the pocket.

I worry way more about the defensive side of the ball than I do about how will ETN, Engram, Kirk, Jones and Travis will score points.     Heck, I remember us putting up plenty of points two years ago against both the Cowboys and the Ravens.

The Jags have problems stopping teams.   Consistently.  Unless the teams are offensively challenged.
Aiyuk is a really good receiver capable of being among the 10 best in the NFL and legitimate number 1. He is also only 25 years old so his best football should be ahead of him. Now for the negatives. The cost of trading for him might be too much; I've seen prospective deals where the Jags would have to give up their 1st rounder, 3rd rounder and a 2nd next year. In my opinion, that would be as bad as having given Ridley a $50 million guarantee and $94 million over 4 years. I don't feel that parting with the first pick would be smart when the Jaguars would be much better off with taking either a cornerback, DT or Edge rusher with that pick. Lawrence was able to thrive in 2022 with Kirk, Engram and Zay Jones. Now he has added a deep threat in Davis and hopefully will have a much better offensive line. I use the word hopefully, because they need Morse to play at the same level as last year, Cleveland to play like he did in Minnesota and Scherff to be injury-free. That's a lot to count on, however the only unreasonable part is Scherff staying healthy and he can be replaced by either a draft pick or Cooper Hodges.

If the 49er's really want to trade Aiyuk, I'd offer a trade for Cam Robinson and a 2nd or 3rd round pick. They could use help at right tackle and Trent Williams will be 36 years old in July. If Baalke could pull that off, he'd quickly get back in my good graces!
If The Jaguars are looking to go WR at 17 then why not trade it for Aiyuk? Would he really be more of a risk than a rookie?

They signed one and a special teams player who won't play WR unless someone is injured. Also if Higgins or Aiyuk were traded for Zay would be gone.

The cost of a 5th year guy versus a rookie is substantial. 1st round picks need to give high performance for low cost throughout their first contract.

I don't think the 49ers would straight up trade him for pick 17 to begin with. They would probably want a little bit more on the deal. I am debating in my head on this a little bit. Apart of me is tempted to say hand over a 2nd RD pick this year and a future 2nd RD pick next year for him.

Another part of me is saying we should offer the 96th pick and a 5th RD pick and maybe a future pick while holding onto 17 and 46 to bolster the defense some more. That would be the best case scenario. You're going to have to pay him as well at some point. If he's not already tied up contract wise.
Team still has to clear some room to sign the draft picks. Waiting on how long that is going to play out.
Oh hell yeah
Huge news. That certainly puts things in a better light !!
It's official. Jags got Armstead.
Holy [BLEEP].
Keep cooking Baalke
So we’re going WR round 1?
Armstead will be a bigger impact for this team will than Ridley. The miss on Ridley was a blessing in disguise
