Yeah. I like Zay. He’s been a good player for us.

The cheap alternatives to Zay are in the UDFA class, we just need to keep the best one of those to be WR5 with another one on the PS.
I don't really mind Zay but I'm very intrigued by Cephus as an UDFA

Why not both? Jarvis could be a good mentor for our young guys

1st- BTJ. WR
2nd- Kris Jenkins DT
3rd- Kyree Jackson  CB(I like Jones but they need outside CB)
4th- Bortolini G/C
4th- McCormick G
5th- Mohammed Kamara DE
5th- Solomon DE
6th- Brendan Rice WR
7th- Justin Rogers DT

This would have been a far better draft.

I agree with this. Jenkins is a great run defender, but would not provide the pass rush. Smith will ultimately be the key to this draft. Potential is a dangerous word, but his is extremely high. What I like most is the doubling up of pass rushers and interior linemen. I'd have preferred this to Foster and Cole by a wide margin.

One bonus to Jenkins, his sheer strength will be funny against fortner in training camp. Might make Doug realise

He already realized - that's why he signed Morse.

His goal will be to mentor them right to the bench.

Dude was not fast in his prime. Now he's a year removed from playing. If they're toying with cutting Zay, they should just cut him and give the spot to a youngster. Gabe is more than capable of being #3.

This is a respect look at kind of like the Tebow thing was.. (I hope) Any ways here is his draft profile...dude ran a scorching 4.77 in the 40.

How good is Landry ? He has had some good seasons.

That's usually the first stop before a trip to IR, so yeah, I could see him sharing his experience.

Yea, his plan is to make millions, nothing more. At the same time take up a slot a young fast guy could have been in learning.  Guy ran 4.77 on his draft combine in gym shorts, the game has passed him by. He tried this with the Saints and it failed.  Guess he could teach them to run slow? Besides we have coaches for this.  Save the roster spot say good things then pass,

There are plenty of experienced receivers on the roster that already know our system.
The WR room doesn't need another mentor IMO.

Jarvis was a beast in Miami as well as his first two years in Cleveland. I really wanted the Jags to pick him up when Miami was clearly not re-signing him. He had a lot to offer back then. (2018)

But his last impactful season was 2019 with 2020 being a good year, then... decline. Some of that was Cleveland going through issues, some of it was Landry losing a step.

If he sticks - I'd be surprised.
With all the key injuries at wr this team had, maybe it’s not a bad idea to think about a Landry just in case if he’s any good.

BTJ
Kirk
Davis
Zay
Duvernay
Washington
Cooks

I just don't see a room screaming for aging/slowing down depth here.

Agreed, our CB's are gonna be running at half speed covering him. That is what happened when he tried this same thing with the Saints in 2022. The Saints signed him as they were in the 8th level of cap hell and had no choice. The Ravens looked at him then and passed.

2022  age 31, 5'11", 196 lbs, 40 time 4.77, 10 yd 1.71 -  results 39 targets, 25 receptions, 272 yards, avg. 10 yds, 1 td

We have no less than 4,  5'11" receivers all 200-210lbs they run 4.39 to 4.5 40's their 10 yds are 1.51. As a side note we have additional 5 guys 6'1-6'3" that are also faster larger and quicker. Just who would you take the targets from? Kirk? Zay? Davis? Engram? our new rookie? We can't possibly think of signing him to sit the bench and hold our playing guys hands can we?

In fairness - that 40 time means nothing.

He played insanely above that mark with like 6 seasons over 800 yards and three 1000 yard seasons. Dude has 38 NFL touchdowns. That 40 time didn't keep him from smoking NFL secondaries with good routes.

My gripe is that he was declining in 2021.
It's 2024.

Do you really truly think that Doug, with all his football knowledge both playing and coaching in the league for decades, and after having a new center signed to replace Fortner, doesn’t realize his deficiencies? And that some board poster knows more. It’s asinine.
