Yeah, but that 17 mil a year goes a lot farther when it isn’t being taxed into oblivion
California is an example of the woke hive mind going out of control.  Many big time celebrities are moving out of there. Even hollywoke has lost it's luster with recent films bombing at the box office. High taxes, High cost of living (SF is the most expensive city in the world.) Insane Homeless problem, high crime, the list goes on and on.  I can't blame the guy for wanting to get out of that insane place.

It's a third world country over there now. The governor overseeing the dumpster fire is pocketing bribes from Panera and aspiring to fail upward to the oval office. Narcissism has no shame.
Well I've got to say well done Baalke. Was worried when we had to tag Josh that things weren't going to the plan but they've done a great job filling gaps and improving the weak spots. Still got a few areas we can improve in the draft and maybe FA but the roster looks better and some fresh faces should shake up the locker room a bit.

Not sure what the plan is for #17 pick right now but the roster feels like it has some better depth and competion for spots and were not still looking for 5-6 starters.

Feeling confident about where we are right now
Jags should try a 2 GM system. Baalke to work FA only, and another focused only on the Draft.... Baalke knows what he is doing in FA, but often seems surprised and panic guessing when the draft gets here. Lol.

He could even do round 1 but then go home after day 1. He hasn’t whiffed on anyone yet like Caldwell and his predecessors. Hire a junior GM scouting director to make the rest of the picks.

I totally agree. The defense line just got a whole lot better. Also the roster management aspect of signing 2.5 WR in a draft in WR is the deepest position just screams a lack of big picture thinking.  Draft some young cheap talent at the position and let them develop.
The pain must be excruciating for some of you typing these complimentary posts, back handed or otherwise, about Baalke.

Blessing Ridley went to TN, this is the perfect scenario.

Exactly what I was thinking.  Essentially a trade of Armstead for Ridley straight up except no it wasn't because Ridley would have cost 1.5x more. The tacks are paying as much for Ridley as we are for Armstead and Morse.

Sorry haters, Baalke's been on his game during free agency, and I'm no longer buying the "waaaaa just wait he'll screw up the draft!!" line.

Great point about Armstead and Morse for Ridley.  We lost games at the end of last year because we were SOFT in the middle.  We could not run the ball between the tackles or stop the run between the tackles.  These 2 pick ups increase the physicality and strength on both sides of the LOS and both are vets who bring professionalism to the locker room. Armstead is a mountain of a man and is only 30 years old, I wouldn’t be surprised for him to play out this 3 year contract.  This was a true home run pickup. Morse is a great communicator who I think is going to help the entire line grow closer as a unit.

That’s fantastic

Yes it is but;no state income tax in Florida + way cheaper cost of living than the Bay Area=more $ in his pocket.

High cost of real estate only happens when too many people are moving in and not enough are moving out.

And please keep this nonsense to the political forum.

If someone told you in 2019, that players from NE, BAL, BUF and 49ERS would come to JAX and they would be happy to do it, and not just for the money, some because of the coach, others the locker room, but all believing that we can win, would you believe ?

Pinch me. Not to mention the alignment that we have with the owner, coach and QB. Lets get that freakin Lombardi to Duval where it belongs!
One thing I really like about this free agency is you can tell they are playing to win.

They are talking this years first round pick at least…
So if you are Baalke, you probably give up the first for Aiyuk rather than Brian Thomas as he wants to win NOW.

That said, I think I’d snag a CB at 17 and get a WR later. We have enough to win with what we have at receiver.

Lines still need depth. Wouldn’t be mad at a big body at 17 either.

I was curious and looked it up.  Armstead would be in the 12.3% income tax bracket in California.  On a $51 million contract, that comes to over $6 million.  Additionally, I also found a cost-of-living calculator.  His $17 million per year in Jacksonville would need to be $31 million in San Francisco to just break even.

Aiyuk isn't worth a first when you have to pay him too.  Should've just paid Ridley then.  They can have the 3rd and maybe another pick which probably doesn't get it done and I'm not worried about it if it doesn't.

LOL ... say it ain't so. I remember some posters thinking Baalkie needed to get to work or work faster. Wondering how he was spending his time when he had not spoken with Josh.  A couple days into free agency and here we are, guess we know now huh?  Backup QB, Center, Wide receiver x2, Cornerback, Safety, Defensive lineman.  10 guys in all.

Signed
QB Mac Jones
Veteran center Mitch Morse from the Bills

Wide receiver Gabe Davis from the Bills

Wide receiver/return specialist Devin Duvernay from the Ravens

Corner back Ronald Darby from the Broncos

Safety Darnell Savage from the Packers
Defensive lineman Arik Armstead from the 49ers (Baalkie drafted him in 2015)

resigned

D'earnest Johnson running back

Daniel Thomas Safety and special team ace.

Ezra Cleveland a veteran free agent guard
Damn,

Keenan Allen to the Bears for a 4th

I have no problem with that. We blow almost every first round pick anyway. May as well get a proven player.
