Take this in jest, but man do the Jags fans love themselves some Walker Little...despite the coaching staff showing no faith.  I really think that cutting Cam is just opening up another hole at a premium position that is very difficult to fill, unless you're in the top 10 of the draft (and/or getting 'draft' lucky.)
2 years again when we made the playoff run he was our best lineman and better than Cam.  Last year he was hurt most of the season like Ezra, Campbell, Hamilton etc. so it would just be betting on how he played 2 years ago.  I'm good either way.  They could also put Harrison at LT if they wanted to in his more natural position.  LT on this team is the least of my worries

Wish I could disagree, but I can’t
No chance they are rolling with Fortner at center. They're just not.

I would also cut Scherff and sign someone younger.

Hehe, then don't mess with it!!!  As a fan of a team, that has previously been severely lacking at LT you (and more importantly your QB) don't want to see what happens!

That's your team, we are lacking on the interior not at LT.  Even if we traded Cam our 2 best lineman are LTs. I'd be ok with keeping Cam as well to keep 3. I'm good with either way. We need a center

OK, not going to try and argue your trust away, but don't say you haven't been warned! Wink
Re-signing Cleveland is a good move. He excelled in run blocking with the Vikings. Pass blocking was average. Remember, he was not benched in Minnesota. He was injured and Risner filled in and played decent enough to trade Cleveland off and get something out of him before he hit FA.

Could have had Risner ourselves last year. It only cost the Vikings a 1 year deal at $2.6M. Technically, we probably could have added him to a 2 or 3 year deal worth less than what we just gave up now for the guy that he replaced.

Just continues to bode well with how AWESOME Baalke is at scouting, identifying and signing needs to this team. Superb.

Not a fan at all of the Cleveland deal but it is what it is.

Shipley knows his [BLEEP]. So, good call out there. To that other posters credit in the second link, I agree, that is pretty fishy. Didn't waste anytime testing the market, after having goals to be a LT. Hope he's not going to Norwell on us.

I am STILL looking at guards to play either side in this draft class and in free agency. Passing up on a guy like Beebe or Mahogany would be criminal.
Ezra at guard should be fine.

I'm good with the contract. Just find another guard to get in the mix and sign one of these free agent centers. Then this unit may become viable/functional.

Yes. I do remember that. And I did want Risner here last offseason. They gave Bartch too much credit where it wasn't deserved.
Baalke's best moves of the offseason so far are cutting players he signed three years ago to bloated deals.

And that tells you everything you need to know about why we are where we are.

I mean... "best moves so far?"

Free agency hasn't even started its engines yet.

Making cuts is literally all he's really been able to do so far unless you think you know for a fact that Allen would have agreed to terms prior to a tag and what that would have cost.

To your point however - this draft needs to produce some starters for Baalke and his crop from last year needs to show value on the field this year. He can't just keep adding free agent patch jobs. That's real.
Ezra Cleveland Re-signed for 3 years $28.5 total ($9.5 million AAV) great signing! Bringing back a guy who already knows our system a bit and is familiar with the rest of the offense. People forget in his first game here he was forced to move to LT briefly and hurt his knee. Now that he's versed in the offense and fully healthy I think he locks down the Left Guard spot for us in a way that we haven't had since Vince Manuwai (may he rest in peace).

There's a lot of good centers out there; buffalo just cut a guy that can be had for around 8-10 million if we're comfortable with his concussion history. I'm wondering if they keep Cam & Scherff given their cap savings if released. I think Trevor needs all the protection he can get, although with Harrison, Robinson & Little we have 3 quality OT's and unless one finds a home at Guard they may be on the bench until injury strikes; depth is never a bad thing but it may be tough to resign Little if we don't play him and i'm not sure given Cam's age, injury history and cap hit how much longer he has on the roster.

Mostly referring to the fact that they were his signings to begin with, that they were middling at best, and that he overpaid them.  It's frustrating to think about.

I think it’s pretty safe to say if the OL isn’t fixed this season, Trevor will be gone, and no one here will fault him. My season ticket subscription will walk too.

I guess we'll find out in about a week.  There's no way they can trot out the same OL, right?

we still have picks in the darft, always be improving. you can keep the guys we had, but damn if we don't start putting some competition and depth behind them. Heck, you might get surprised and find someone better than the old guard.

(this is more an open letter to the FO than a direct response to you)

He botched the Josh Allen contract situation so I can't wait to see how he botches Trevor.

@Just like we were getting a deal done with Allen and having the tag as the safety net with Ridley@

At this stage, I've given up trying to think like the FO because every time I try, they find a way to contradict expectation.
