Quote:In 2011 and 2012 he split carries with Felix Jones and still produced great numbers. Saying "one career year" doesn't tell the whole story. 2023 -14 were the only years he was really the clear centerpiece back.
I don't get what the argument here is. I am not saying he isn't good. I am saying that at 10 million per year, he is way too much risk, especially if it precludes us from drafting a stud running back if one is staring at us come our pick.
He has suffered through lots of nagging injuries. He was behind a dominant offensive line. He has only had one truly elite year. Compare that to the other top paid running backs who have had multiple elite years. You have to not want to see the risks to not see them.

Quote:I wouldn't lose sleep over missing out on Murray. I have to say Gurley is likely to be a better back. This is similar to the Cardinals passing on Peterson when they signed Edgerrin James a year earlier. James had just ran for 1500 yards the year he hit FA and the Cardinals got two years of okay production while Peterson would rise to the elite level of players in the league.
Similarly Murray may have had one of the best seasons he could ever have behind one of the best lines in football. It's no secret that his production would slip behind the young Jaguar Line. I'm not doubting Murray's talent, however there is a price point where I would say, nah Gurley is worth either trading back or trading up for.
Its not a huge loss, its just we want to know so we can move on

If you like profanity, go somewhere else. Here you have to guess what the bad word is.

The fact that after all we've done that this is taking place means he's going back to me. If so, I'm not upset....would be a great get but not a heart wrenching lost

Thank you. He is not worth what hes asking.
Quote:I agree - but it's only about 300K per year more than minimum - and that's not a ton in NFL dollars these days.
While it's a contract the 49ers can afford, it makes me wonder if the people now running their organization are getting even close to maximizing their resources and making overall good decisions.

I agree with this assessment.

I hear you there. I do just wanna know.. Am I buying a Murray Jersey or not?
Well goodnight people. I completely expect to wake up tomorrow with Murray headed back to Dallas.
It was fun while it lasted.

I see your points - and don't really disagree much - I was just pointing out something missing from your prior post.
I never really expected or wanted the Jags to go after Murray. But I do think he and D-Rob would be a ridiculous combo with Gerhart being a wildcard contributor if the new offensive regime can use them properly. The only reason I remotely condone it is the crazy cap space we have at the moment.
(yes a draft pick makes more sense $$-wise - if they are willing to spend an early pick - depends on their draft strategy)

There is absolutely no risk at all of missing out on a good running back in the draft by signing DeMarco Murray. Getting him would prevent us from needing to draft one.

I agree. He would be a definite upgrade if he were on the roster, no doubt.
