Quote:The 2nd rounder is a tender provided by the Browns for their FS Gipson. Discussing the possibility and weighing its benefits and drawbacks.

GO JAGS!!
No not the Gipson offer, if we did make and offer and with some kind of wizardry the Browns didn't match I would be perfectly fine giving up a 2nd in that scenario. Just think it's a 1% shot at best.

I meant the few pages before that where many people (stuck in the 90s apparently) seemed to think signing Murray and drafting a top RB for long term would be a good idea.
Quote:Wait, what nightmare did I wake up to? I take a nap for 2 hours and multiple people are wanting to pay 8 mil for a running back AND use a 2nd day pick on one?

The only advantage to wasting 8 mil in cap space on a RB is not having to waste a valuable pick on a RB...

Things got weird...
Quote:Agreed.

I'm sure we can go back to past drafts and recall that there were many players we didn't think would be available in the top quarter of Round 2 surprisingly being there.

There will certainly be players available at 36 with 1st round grades, there might even be players available at 36 with mid first round grades, this why you don't pull the trigger on this trade, just too many unknowns. I'd rather find a stop gap in Rahim Moore or pay an ascending player in Ron Parker than to give up a valuable 2nd round pick.

GO JAGS!!
He is talking about people wanting Gurley in the 2nd/3rd...
@NFL_RealUpdates: #Seahawks signed former #Jaguars CB Will Blackmon, per @FieldYates

I called it.

 I certainly agree with you.

While pick # 39 is obviously a little lower than pick # 36,   if the Jaguars would have made a similar trade in 2003,   they would have lost the opportunity to draft Rashean Mathis with pick # 39 that season.
Quote:I'd rather take a look at Ron Parker than to part with the 36th overall pick.
eh not worth it for the money he will get IMO, we need play makers, would rather get Stevie Brown or Louis Delmas on 1 year deals and draft a guy and see if we can hit on one next year
Quote: From the standpoint of an interesting discussion, this would be a great thread to put together a few days after the draft. This way, we can see which players were available when that spot of the draft came around. There probably would be a wide variety of opinions.

Along those lines, when does an offer need to he made for him? Could we theoretically agree to potential terms and in the event of a trade back in the draft offer the Browns a later round two pick?

Like "hey we want to offer x to Gipson if we get a trade in the draft allowing us to give you pick y"

Something tells me that's shady and not allowed.
Congrats Uncle Bill!

Who you and I like and don't like is besides the point, I'm not giving up the 36 overall pick (which is essentially a 1st round pick) for Gibson.
Quote:If we want to be charitable and do the heavy lifting of negotiating a long term deal for the Browns again then sure, we should make an offer for Gipson that they will just snap match again. Gipson is one of their most important players and once again the Browns have a lot more cap space than us.
If he is so important why didnt they give him a 1st round tender with all that cap space? Heavy lifting? We are doing that now, its the same when you invite a player to your building and they leave and sign somewhere else. Like Mack its worth it to go after young probowl players at huge need positions
In less than 24 hours, Julius Thomas, Jeremy Parnell, and Jared Odrick will be Jaguars if NFL.com reports about them are accurate. That obviously is a much more reliable website than Twitter, so I will be shocked if we don't get all three of those players tomorrow after 4:00.

The offer sheet would have to be made no later than April 24.   The deadline to match it would be on April 29,  a day before the draft.   Hence,  there wouldn't be the flexibility that you asked about.

Here's an interesting tweet:

<p class="" style="font-size:26px;">Sadly for <a class="" href='https://twitter.com/hashtag/Jaguars?src=hash'>#Jaguars</a> & <a class="" href='https://twitter.com/hashtag/Raiders?src=hash'>#Raiders</a>, threat of their cap space has been used for leverage to get players better contracts elsewhere."

Gotcha. Thought there was something like that. Oh well.

What does that have to do with anything?

Sadly, most players probably would come here; but they're too afraid to play on a bad team.
