I think most would be pretty happy if 1-3 rounds went some combo of the above.

I agree with needing balance and I'm personally hoping more for:

DL//Leo//Otto in 1st

RT in 2nd.

CB/LB/DL in 3rd.
Bingo you get it
Still not hearing anything about McCourty yet with anyone attached to him. Here's to hoping Dave is hammering out and offer for his services

Assuming this happens,  will Chip Kelly target Percy Harvin when released from the Jets?
Quote:Just about guarantee a signing at 12 million...a mistake. Offer a 8+million deal that a team can match...not a mistake?

And Clay would just be Alex Mack all over again.

Probably.

God I hate Kelly.
Quote:Is it bad that I considered 10 million a year a bargain for him? Cut Lewis and the net is only 3 million a year...

Sounds like a winner

Depending on what Miami will have left after signing Suh, they may not be able to keep Clay if a team offers a front loaded contract.

Exactly...take the guaranteed signing for a more talented guy or roll the dice for a guy who can't make his own decision (the dolphins control his destiny).

Could easily lose out on both if you only pursued Clay.
I'm all for Eddie Royal if we add a veteran receiver.

Still risky when you could have Thomas sign, sealed, delivered in a day and a half.

We are not gonna overpay for these WR's, our young WRs are only gonna be as good as our QB, they have talent, develop them, sign a cheaper vet WR

I wouldn't be opposed to Nate Washington either. He always seems to has his best games when playing against the Jags.

no way, Chip doesnt like guys with strong personalities, I  could see us signing him on a 1 year prove it deal

Very true but you'd likely have to front load the contract to be above what Thomas would be for year 1...and even then there is the slim chance Miami makes some more crazy cuts...

I mean which do you prefer...

Guaranteed Thomas signing for 12 or chase Clay?

I agree. Thomas is priority, with Jordan Cameron as a fallback. If we miss out on both, then you look to offering a tricky contract to Clay.

See above.

Lions executives Martin Mayhew and Tom Lewand miscalculated the Ndumukong Suh situation many times over the last few years.

Based on what transpired through last Sunday,  I would have definitely have used the Franchise Tag on Ndamukong Suh.  Especially,  considering the salary cap went up noticeably this year.   With the plan on using it again in 2016,  if Suh didn't agree to a multi-year contract,  providing he had a similar 2015 season,  compared to 2014.   This despite his cap number being over $ 31 million in 2016.  After that,  I would have let Suh walk.   He will be 30 in 2017.    While the cap figures for the two seasons would have been extremely high,  it would have beaten the alternative of losing the team's best player.   If the Lions have a losing season in 2015,  major change could be coming in 2016.
Nate Washington and Eddie Royal????

No thanks.

Reports are coming out that a Thomas deal would be around $10M/yr, which is not too encumbering. My intial argument was considering a deal that approached $12M/yr for a player who, in my opinion, takes a bit of projection coming from a team that has an all-time great QB, who's history shows that the components around him to be somewhat replaceable.
