In light of the news about some of the college conferences being cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns, (and possibly more to follow), I feel bad for the college football players. A lot of them really do want to play and they are getting that opportunity taken (and potentially taken away from them. I do think there could be a lot of truth to the notion that if they stayed on campus they could be safer than going back home. (Due to access to doctors/medical treatment/testing etc...)
I think that the college football programs could come up with measurements like others sports leagues have done to help lower risk and help better protect players, if they went ahead with playing in the fall season. But unfortunately we have a lot of people that continue to be largely driven by fear and fear mongering instead of trying to find the best ways to live with this virus. (Which IMO isn't just wanting/trying to cancel things, instead of really trying to deal with it.)

I think about gaslighting and the left often. It amazes me how they change reality by altering words and just repeat the narrative over and over until people believe it. A perfect example is the trans issue. They legitimately have scientific institutions replacing women with "people with a cervix." That blows my mind to have that level of influence. There's a growing movement to make science narrative driven. Young people in Portland are literally chanting ALL cops are bastards. They have them chanting defund the police, then when you question them about it, they say it's just reform. There's a word for that. It's called reform. There is a growing reality gap between the left and the right, and I would question my sanity if it weren't so easy to look at history to see where these ideologies originated. It's hard to convince me I have been gaslit, when there is a track record attached to my point of view.
I am certain there are some ways in which I am influenced by my news consumption. It's impossible not to be. All people are biased, and susceptible to rhetoric and demagoguery. That is true for both the left and the right. However, when it comes to gaslighting, I am convinced that this is a much bigger problem in leftist circles.

The progressive left has adopted the principles of deconstructionism, and it's only a matter of time before deconstruction of math becomes mainstream. Two months ago, I never thought our society would ever consider defunding the police, even though I've known it's been a goal of radical Marxists since the 60's. Literally 6 months ago, some scholars I follow started talking about deconstructionism in science.
