From a neutral observer standpoint; they've [Goodell and others] made public statements on increasing minority representation in its coaching ranks, and it's increasing of the Rooney Rule to two candidates has shown tacit admission to such.

Yet now they have to go into a court with a straight face and take the opposite position.

Talk about being hoisted on a petard lol.

I don't think the US Court system wants to be involved with enforcing the Rooney Rule, but I wonder if the fact that the NFL has taken money from the US military over the years makes them subject to affirmative action.  I would guess it does.  Oops.
I do not believe Leftwiich is as highly seen in the league as the Board and social media lead you to believe. I haven't heard of any team outside of the Jaguars rumor who is considering him for head coach.

It is interesting that there was a lack of interest in Byron Leftwich as a head coach.  There were 8 openings outside of Jacksonville.  The Bears were the only team to actually interview him with the Saints asking permission but have yet to schedule an interview.  Even if he interviews with the Saints, that's still 6 out of 8 teams that didn't even think he was worth a first interview.
But how many interviewed Daboll? Hackett? Eberflus? If I remember correctly 2-3 teams each. Caldwell?

Perhaps he's learned his lesson after being manipulated by managers or whomever else was leaking to drive a narrative on the Jags hiring.   Or perhaps he's being used again to keep the Leftwich chatter alive.  His thread is hinting that Leftwich will bring Brady in a package to Jacksonville.  That combo should open some interview opportunities at other clubs, no?  He's being used again, his leak taking another shot after the last round of Leftwich chatter didn't create any additional interview opportunities.  Remember, the last round of Leftwich is coming! noise happened immediately after his first interview.  His first.  Ok...

No one leaking knows what is in Shad's mind.  Shad has no incentive to limit his options by feeding these rumors.  One of these different rumors will end up being correct because when you guess every possibility then one of them will hit.

I'll believe what happens when it's announced, but until then I'm betting that Shad sticks with the status quo.  Balke/Bevell.  For one more year.

Me? In Shad's shoes given the charlie foxtrot this franchise has been over the last few years and last year's hiring disaster, I would be hiring experience. Short of experience blowing off my socks off in interviews then I would stick with what I've got. Shad's mileage may vary.
What craziness will tomorrow bring?

Byron was hired by Ariens as a QB coach when he was in Arizona. He did that for 2 years and was let go shortly after Ariens was. He was again hired by Ariens in Tampa as OC and has done that the last 3 years. The only real success has been the last 2 years when Brady came to Tampa. I am sure he is hard working and an up and coming coach, but it remains the only person that has hired him is Ariens. He only has 5 years coaching experience. If I were an owner thinking about him I would like to see what he does now in Tampa just to see if it was Brady or him before turning the reigns of my team over to him.

This is incredibly inaccurate. He isn't a good coach because of Brady. You guys act like he is the only player Byron has ever coached.
Why not just do interviews in large scale. Do like 1 big interview with the top 15 OCs top 15 DCs and top 15 STCs and then add like 5-10 miscellaneous coaches. Give them each paper, ask them all the same generic questions then ask each group group specific questions. Narrow it down like that then do 2nd interviews with 25% of the candidates. 3rd interviews are for the finalists then hire.

Not only should that eliminate the need for the Rooney rule it should also get the most productive coaches hired.
I cant believe we still do not have a coach, but we still have a snake in the grass
Maybe the playing group woll take over

The first three you mention may be a little misleading since they were hired early.  For example, the Saints aren't going to request an interview with them since they are already off the market.

That being said, and relooking at it, Leftwich's number of interviews isn't unusual.  Two teams didn't interview that many and the Texans have largely interviewed people that no one else wanted.  Different teams also just chose to interview different people.  Strangely, the person with the most interview requests was Dan Quinn with 6 and he dropped out of consideration.  Outside of that, the most requests were four - Nathaniel Hackett, Kellen Moore, Todd Bowles and Doug Pederson.  Leftwich having 3 isn't particularly out of line.
I dont understand the obsession with dan quinn but okay. Oh well. We continue to wait

I'm guessing more of the same. We wait and wait and wait for a new coach to be named while more wild rumors begin to spread.
This has been rumor season. Quite entertaining with a touch of frustration.

It could all be rumours but uche nwaneri claimed on his YouTube channel the other night that other teams are respecting that leftwich is all in on the jags job and that’s his main interest, similar to why Josh mcdaniels interviewed at raiders and nobody else
Didn't Uche Nwaneri say Byron wants the Jag job so bad. Maybe he is holding out from accepting interviews idk.
