I think it's safe to say if the QB develops, playoffs usually come with good/great QB play. Not always, but most of the time. The Jags defense has some solid pieces going forward, so a good QB would do wonders for this team.

Exactly! I agree, which is why someone who can develop or "help" Trevor should be the priority.

Let's say we bring Leftwich and he develops/"helps" Trevor but for whatever reason (Leftwich's fault) we don't win a playoff game or we never make it to the AFCC, it would much easier to then bring a coach who is more defensive minded, or leader or whatever when you already have a good enough QB (like Colts did with Dungy, who obviously was a good coach but never won the SB until he got Manning as his QB).

From watching Trevor, and especially watching the last game against the Colts, Trevor will develop just fine.   So I wouldn't say, "bring in someone who can develop Trevor" but I would say "get Trevor some help."  That means the whole team, especially the offense, and the offensive personnel.  In the last game, Trevor got pass protection, and the receivers got open, and Trevor played like an elite QB, in spite of 4 or 5 dropped passes.

I don't care as much about hiring some QB guru as our head coach as much as I care about just hiring a good head coach.  One who knows NFL offense and NFL defense and can hire some good assistants, and provide good steady leadership and have the players respect him and want to play for him.

I love the one game Jagsfans lol.

So if we were to bring JDR back you think Trevor would be ok and he would develop the same as if he had Shanahan or McVay? or if we bring Eberflus it really doesn't matter who he brings as the OC Trevor will do just fine?
I mean some things should be clear after watching this team play...

But again all three are said to have the qualities need to be head coach with no obvious red flags.  And I get the impression that the odds of keeping Baalke around would be lessened if any of the three are chosen.
The bolded needs to be emphasized.

Hackett has flat out said no to Baalke. Byron has a list of 3 or so people he wants to work with but nothing really about Eberflus.

How do you know Hackett has said no to Baalke, and how do you know Byron has a list of 3 people?  Where did that come from?
Hacket is a bad idea. We saw how he looked while he was with the jags the first time. With green bay hacket has the perfect personal. That colts d coordinator is another bad idea.

Of course, it's all just a matter of opinion, but I have seen enough of Trevor to see that when he gets protection and open receivers, he plays really really well.  So I don't don't think the offensive problems we have are on Trevor.  I think it's on the team around him.

I never said it didn't matter who the OC is.  Of course it matters who the OC is.  I just think some people are stuck on the idea of getting the hot offensive coordinator or QB guru to be our head coach, when really, what we need is just a good head coach.

Yeah I think Hackett made lemonade out of lemons here. Not sure how people have such bad memories of the guy.

I liked most of what he did.

He did take his foot off the gas a few times and that ticked me off at the time.

I'm not going to assume any of the following:
  • His offense and philosophy is exactly what his OC would run here
  • He would micromanage his OC
  • He was or wasn't influenced by Marrone in some decisions in his Jags tenure prior
  • He is ready to be a HC after bouncing around for 12 years
  • He is NOT ready to be a HC after 12 years in the league

I really just don't know much about the guy beyond that kooky nervous energy he had in pressers in 2016-18, which I kind of enjoyed oddly, but I think might be weird after multiple losses. He was fairly creative offensively, but I disagreed with some of his situational calls, and I borderline hated his approach in the 2nd half of the AFCCG.
Curveball!

I for one was in complete agreement with Lageman when Marrone cut him loose.  "They fired the wrong coordinator!!!!!"

He was Marrone's guy...  Followed him from place to place in a subordinate role.  Made it all that more bizarre that Doug fired him instead of Wash.

All that said, I'm not sure how I feel about him as HC.  He'd probably be ok, which would be a huge step up at this point, but i'm hoping for a bit more than ok.
And hurry up and wait. Let's see how it goes this weekend and if that shines any light on the coaching hires.

Our guys don't work on weekends so they'll have to pick it back up on Monday at 8am if they don't finalize by 4pm on Friday.
Now this is interesting. Jim Caldwell has turned down interview requests with the Vikings and Raiders.

I can't click on the link, but the rumor I read said that Caldwell is thought to be the front runner for the Chicago Head Coach position.  I guess Bill Polian is running that search and the thought is that he prefers Caldwell.  My preferences are Caldwell, Pederson or Leftwich - in any order.  I like the fact the Caldwell & Pederson have previous experience, but could definitely get excited about Leftwich....

The following year, the Jaguars were 27th in yards and 31st in points and he got fired.  He was also previously was an offensive coordinator with Buffalo and finished in the bottom half of the league in both years in both yards and points.  As for his one good year with the Jaguars, the high ranking was because of having the top ranked running game.  The passing game, in terms of both yards and turnovers, was worse than average.  Blake Bortles' quarterback rating was only 84.7.

This was shot down fast and reported that he had a conversation with Baalke only and it wasn't formal. Sounds like Baalke is going rogue.

The following year is when the whole team fell apart.  Wasn't EJ Manuel is QB in Buffalo?  That should be all you need to know about his time as an OC in Buffalo lol. In 2017 when he had a top 5 offense where he had Marquee Lee, an undrafted rookie, and a 4th round rookie WR as his top 3 WRs.  Bortles had 21 TDs and 13 Ints, and 84.7 QBR was very good for Blake especially with what he had to work with at WR being Hurns and ARob went down. Like you said we also had the number 1 ranked rushing offense with a rookie RB and a rookie LT.  Not sure I want Hackett as a coach but what he did here with this offense was pretty dam. Impressive with what he had to work with. You left out his QB just won the MVP as well

There's also currently a rumor out there that Caldwell has taken a position in our FO.

If that's true, Caldwell in the FO and Byron as the HC is actually perfect.

I was scouring the news on that at the time.

There weren't any "reports" on that. Merely speculation. Various writers speculated it was a Marrone thing.

Plus, I didn't say my problem with him in that game was taking his foot off the gas or playing it safe. I just didn't like the play calling compared to what was working for him in the first half. He tried to fix something that wasn't broken when he could have continued pulling water from the well.

If they aren't stopping you at what you are running, don't change it until they actually adjust and stop it. That was my issue. And what they were running was plenty "safe."

Baalke up to his typical shenanigans? You don't say!? Khan couldn't have possibly had any foresight or knowledge into Baalke's work habits. Possible silver lining though: Perhaps Baalke knows he's toast and is possibly planting seeds with McCown to maybe land a job with him if he ends up a coach somewhere in the football world.
