Leftwich was garnering attention as a QB coach/coordinator long before Brady signed with TB. IIRC he worked with Arians in AZ when they had Palmer
After the crap we have seen, I think any of the guys on the nfl.com list would be a massive improvement

Byron Leftwich is probably one of the smartest coaches available. Probably knows more about the game than any coach we've EVER had.

The man loves the game, lives and breathes it.

Sorry that you couldn't get past the way he spoke... and yes there were plenty here who said exactly that.
Leftwich is an interesting candidate. I saw Jimmie Smith endorsed him as well.

How do you know this? I have no doubt he has a good football IQ, but how do you know he's that knowledgeable? Do you know him personally? Has there been a declaration by the football gurus that Byron Leftwich is remarkably knowledgeable?  Is there any indication in that crystal ball of yours that he could perform as a HC?

It's this kind of hyperbolic assumptions influenced by nostalgia and desire for retribution that will cause another bad choice. We have too much as stake to gamble on another unknown. BL may be good OC with a living legend QB playing for him, but there is nothing in his makeup or track record that guarantees he can run the show. Let some other team perform that experiment. We need proven worth to step in next season.
If we wanna go up and coming it has to be Leftwich if we want an established guy the Pederson would be a good hire. Made Wentz look like an MVP before he got injured and had Foles playing at a high level.
I think this is going to be like the draft every year as people pick a favorite and then criticize all the other candidates in order to pump up their favorite.

Personally I think there are a dozen candidates that would be good.

Absolutely right. I will try to be open minded and as of today I only know a candidate I don't want. If the candidate looks reasonably competent I'll try to give him a chance.

Spoken like a true football scholar.

There are enough proven winners to pursue. You’re exactly right. Let someone else run the experiment on the up and comers.

I have a favorable opinion of Leftwich. But I want to see how he performs without Brady there before I’m taking the risk.

McDaniels is a great example of this, he's managed to win with guys like Cassell and Brissette, I've only seen Tomlinson win with a future Hall of famer that someone else groomed.

He's developed plenty of guys on that roster. They end up a receivers factory, in particular. And their GM often lets those guys walk, and boom, the next guy is just as much a threat. That's a damn good system to have in place if you have a great QB at the helm.

Are you telling me it's a strike against him that he came to a team with an HOF QB in place, and they didn't give him a chance to replace him with his own developmental prospect?
IIRC he was a DC with the Vikes before he took the PIT job, so it's a bit of a reach to think that he'd be the ideal prospect to develop your QB.

No, I'm telling you it's a strike against him that when backup quarterbacks have to play their team seems to perform a lot worse. We need someone that grooms quarterbacks, not someone that succeeds with a QB someone else groomed.

He did well with Jameis Winston too, though.

Did he?

He did so well Winston is no longer with the Bucs... If had done a great job with him, Winston, not Brady would be the QB. Just sayin..

This is just an asinine statement.  You have a QB and you have a choice of Winston or Brady, you're going to take Winston?  Well...you probably would.

I think that was the year he boycotted the NFL and cut off the Nike swoosh from his socks.

Not sure he remembers that season!
I have the above two on ignore, I can only guess they disagree with my sentiments. LOL...no matter its probably something stupid and ugly anyway. They are my un-official fan club, they hang on my every word. LOL

It's funny the way you announce this like it's a badge of courage.  Personally I think it's weak minded.  But hey, you be you.  Then again, you're probably reading the comments anyway.

Pretty sure that 90% of the starting QB's in this league would lose thier job if Brady joined thier team.

No, I get that. My point is simple. If Winston was progressing so well, why the need to go and pursue Brady and risk losing a potential long term solution at QB? Ya Brady, Mr. Goat.. I wouldn't get rid of Lawrence to get Brady at this age, not in a million years

Arians' offense is notoriously difficult to master, so there's a possibility that Winston didn't have the ability to do so.  He threw a ton of TDs and the Bucs put up a ton of points, but he also threw way too many INTs.

So, who runs the offense over there? Arian's or Leftwich? I am confused.
