That just seems so backwards, but this is the reality of Shad Khan’s lack of sound decision-making.

Personally, I don't care how they do it, as long as they make sure the HC and GM make a great 'marriage' for lack of a better term.
Oh, and the GM is NOT Baalke.

You said no defensive coach, "Offensive coach..  Upper said he's warming up to Eberflus so now it's OK?  Upper could say he likes the idea of bringing back Gus and you would agree.  Is Joe Brady still your top guy? That was the guy you kept screaming about
Whoa. You good? People can’t change their opinions after a whole year?

I still want an offensive HC because if the OC leaves, the HC can still maintain offensive continuity. I think my top choice at the moment is Caldwell followed by Byron. The idea of Byron and Trevor growing together is appealing to me. And if Byron brings someone along to run the D that is like Bowles, I’m in for that too. If it’s Eberflus, his OC would be extremely important but if he’s like Staley, I’m all for it.

Don’t be upset that some of us agree on certain aspects of how to build a team. Upper and I tend to agree on some things but disagree on others. If Upper said he wanted Gus, that’s where we would disagree.

See, there's something we disagree with lol. I won't be totally upset with Caldwell, but he is dead last of the options that I would find acceptable.

I changed my mind.

I was just about to say he is now dead last for Cleatwood  until I scrolled down to the next post lol.

+1
The Jags need to end the search with Pederson if he's willing to take the job.

Spoken like you are new here...  You are stuck with every opinion and differing opinion and each will be thrown in your face at every opportunity for roughly eternity.

Which opinion did you change after a whole year?

Last year at this time, I really wanted Joe Brady to be the HC. Mainly for the same reasons I kinda want Leftwich. A young up and coming OC who can help Trevor reach his full potential.

However this year, the team can’t really gamble which is why Caldwell is my #1 choice. They need stability and just overall good juju. Caldwell brings that.

I still think Joe Brady will be a good HC one day but this team can’t gamble this year.

Oh ok, I just remembered you saying like a month or 2 ago he was still your guy.  The stability we need this year is no different from last year with the rookie QB and young team.  I'm sure Brady could be a good coach one day but he hardly has any experience in the NFL which was my question mark last year with him last year when we had our discussion about it and you were saying it didn't matter and arguing about it.
So caldwell has been out of the league for 4 years? Is that concerning?

Not really. Coaches tend to enjoy, analyze and still stay in touch or contact with everybody they worked with.

He could jump right back into it. Parcells did it. Gibbs did it. Caldwell is competent and capable.

Not sure that two guys from multiple generations ago are the best examples.

Caldwell's time off is my biggest worry with him. The NFL moves really fast and I'm not sure if I expect that he will jump right back in seamelssly, especially with his advanced age.
Pederson interviewed yesterday. I wonder if we'll hear any word on how it went. Hopefully:

(during interview)

Khan holds up depleted drinking glass with ice inside and quickly rattles it: "Trent, get me a refill, please."
Baalke: "Yes, sir." Takes glass and walks out of room.
Khan to Pederson: "He won't be here much longer."

haha that would be such a great thing to happen. but i do think Trent is gone at the end of the year.

What do you mean? Parcells and Gibbs are perfect examples when you mention generational gaps and the NFL moving fast or changing. Gibbs went from 80's to early 00's. Parcells took a few 3 - 4 years off inbetween the Giants, Patriots, Jets and Cowboys.

Good coaches adapt or die in the NFL. Caldwell, again, plenty capable. Is he as decorated as those guys I mentioned? No. A lot of guys aren't. But, those are examples nonetheless.

However, look, he had Detroit consistently winning or at least decent looking three years in a row. This was after people thought he was a fluke with the clots because of Manning.

He also had Flacco playing optimally in Baltimore that earned them a title. He can coach. Most importantly. He understands the QB position and how to maximize what he has to work with there.

Listen. If Dungy or Cowher came out of broadcasting and publicly stated they wanted to coach again. Would you shun them or give them a call?

For Caldwell, he isn't a long term solution so you need to prepare for the next hire. He also would need some good coordinators.

It doesn't happen much but I would look to have Caldwell and Leftwich if they fell in love with Leftwich. Leftwich would be the HC but have Caldwell with some higher title so he can help and tutor Leftwich. That way Leftwich isn't stuck on his own in a brand new role.
