Yea but it wouldn’t interfere with building a roster.

You won’t have to choose between signing your QB and potentially losing other players.

Doesn't serve parity

Never enough good QBs

You wanna keep one - you gotta pay and deal with cap consequence

I wouldn't change that -it would allow QB driven dynasties to dominate

Two thoughts.

First it is a de-facto increase in the salary cap and allows the owner with the deepest pockets to have the best QB.  (well unless they are on their first contract) Second, it would raise the amount paid to other positions till another one is transitioned to be like the QB. Right now the divide is simple, players and coaches. Football is basically the only sport with this cap process, I imagine in an attempt to "level" the playing field. Take a look at baseball where only the big market teams really have a chance and consider it.  It is really a tough topic.

Exactly.

The key to winning long term is to have a great QB and to draft every other position well.

The other way to win is in spurts by not overpaying for a QB and keeping a core group of elite players together.

What screws it up for most teams is they overpay for a borderline QB instead of recognizing that they can't win with that guy anyway so they should trade them for more picks. Guys like Jackson and Cousins and Tanneyhill are good examples of it. The Jaguars fell into this trap hard in 2018 and 19.

The Ravens should have traded Jackson years ago instead of playing his contract games, the Vikings should have never given cousins so much guaranteed money, and the titans shouldn't have given Tanneyhill such a large contact.

Agreed
I almost forgot how good Trevor is until I saw this highlight of the Ravens game

My buddy had an interesting contract idea.

Just have the QBs with their own separate contracts that don’t count towards the cap, like a Head Coach. The QB contracts are getting insane and it won’t stop.

No thank you.

Then the owners that want to spend like mad will be able to buy their way to titles while the other teams just get tasked with developing the next superstar and losing them in the name of fiscal responsibility. I don't want the Yankees in NFL.
It's going to take some kind of Max Contract language in the CBA to make this happen. I imagine that a majority of non-QB agents would salivate at the idea that the QB can't take up more than say...15% of the total roster cap.
I hope we go ahead and get him extended after this next season, now that he's shown he has that ability to be a guy i'd like to see it continue through this year and then pull the trigger..because the moneys only gonna get worse as time goes on.

Anyone who has been a fan of the team for more than a few years has seen what it looks like when a team makes a bad or mediocre QB look decent and get some wins.

That's clearly not what we saw this year. What we saw this year was a QB starting to make a mediocre team look good.

Trevor is who everyone thought he was coming out of college.

That Urban managed to make it seem questionable for so many people is insane. Literally the worst coaching job I've ever seen.

Was that even from a real session?   Never saw Trevor and any of his pass catchers in a shot at the same time.  That could have been snipped together from a bunch of vids.

Watch the last ten seconds again

You see TL give the bro hug to who appears to be Tim Jones, and Jones do the same with Ridley. It's all clearly from the same session.

Incredible what drafting a generational qb can do

Ah, I see now.  Maybe I zoned out wondering what the heck I was looking at by then.  I think I would have preferred original footage rather than the cut-up, slo-moed, overly dramatic slices.
