The Bortles extension was one of the biggest mistakes of this franchise.  Any fan that had lived through the Garrard contract hell, could see the Bortles contract as the same thing. And yet...  Coughlin, in all his "wisdom" decided to go for it.

Tom [BLEEP] Coughlin.  Worst Front Office dude ever.  But, like I said.  He destroyed the franchise and it resulted in Trevor Lawrence coming out from the ashes of that idiocy.  Coughlin crapped all over us.  And all that guano fertilized a tank job that finally bore fruit.
Kudos for multiple Ace Ventura references.

However, have a little respect for Coughlin as he helped put Jacksonville on the map. Did he make a mistake with extending Bortles? No doubt.

Isn't that the 2nd or 3rd time this year he's gotten this award?

Drafting Fournette was braindead, too, but as has been said, it's all working out, now.

1st off. thanks!  I'm a kid of the 90s.

2nd...

I get it, a lot of you guys have mad respect for Coughlin.  I just don't.

But I can understand why you respect him so much.  I didn't grow up in Jacksonville.  I grew up a Marino die hard and I lived most my life in the rocky mountains.  I didn't move to the Jacksonville area untill 2007.  And that's when I became a die hard Jaguar fan.

So for me, Coughlin was never someone to be praised.  Yeah, he was a good HC for the Giants, but that's all he is for me (and probably many others).  The effect Coughlin had as the EVP for Shad Khan is all most of us 2007 and beyond jaguars fans know.

As an older guy, I know he's a decent person and a good family man.  And I respect that.  But that doesn't mean I can't lament and criticize his professional failures when he came back to the Jaguars.  It's fair to praise the private person and yet criticize the public man's failures.

That's just how life works.

I was born in 1985. I never really watched Walter Payton play or the 70s Steelers but I still have respect for them. There is way more out there than just what we have experienced in our lifetime.

So while you hate Coughlin for what he did in 2015 or 2017, the history for him goes further back and he's one of the most important people for this organization. You also may not remember Jimmy Smith or Keenan or Fred or Brunell but their impact on this franchise will last forever.
i became a fan in 95 started watching every week around 2002. so missed the majority of the early success. but Coughlin goes back more than just what he did in 2017. He is a legend and will always be one.
I'm just still high on the fact that against Baltimore we were like "Thats his statement game!" then just two weeks later he comes out like "Statement game? Hold my beer"

Just on an absolute tear since week 9. If he continues to finish the season like this, the Jags will be talked about as a dark horse SB team for the 2023/24 season.

Love it! He’s humble and can seem laid back, but everyone who questioned his desire to win and his heart is going to be watching him go scorched earth on the league.
This is a really interesting video.

Yeah. Was waiting on his breakdown. He gushes. LOL.

REALLY want to see Kurt Warner's breakdown on this though.

Also. For those questioning still as to whether or not he's elite? Read the comment section in the video.

A lot of fans from other fanbases know what they have/had in Jones, Wilson and Fields.

I don't know about darkhorse Superbowl, but maybe Division Champ and playoff contender for sure. Jags FO needs to be careful with this team during the off-season

I don't hate Coughlin and maybe in the end it worked out for the best but you can't deny he destroyed a talented roster. Outside of running off most of our most talented players personally, he also decided Blake was fine, skipped on Watson/Mahomes for a running back and then proceeded to extend Bortles after the playoff run, whilst not extending any of the players who actually got us there.

Let's also not forget why he got fired to begin with in his original stint.

He points out something I've noticed in the last few games, and that is, his footwork.

Yeah. He's mechanically sound. Which is impressive because he's worked on that midseason and he's corrected a lot of his issues that were causing him to sail passes earlier on this year. What impresses me is his ability to sink low and set his hips into a strong base.

He's a tall guy. That's not easy to do. He really does look like a Justin Herbert out there but I think he could surpass him next year if they keep adding viable threats at the skill positions and bolstering the protection up front.

Somebody said it best in the comment section but he's starting to look like a young, MOBILE version of Peyton Manning. That's pretty fair at this point considering his ball placement, ridiculous accuracy and some of the throws he keeps making. It's like watching a pool hustler run the table at will with him at times.

Hope like hell he does this against Dallas. Defensively they're stout and stacked. They're actually good against the pass so I want to see how Lawrence and Pederson go about attacking and scheming against these guys. When you play against teams like Dallas, Kansas City, etc.

Those are often those games where you're like "Man, we could really use a Justin Jefferson here or a Travis Kelce here". Lawrence has elevated everybody around him this year. There's no denying this. BUT, when you start facing a loaded defense you're going to find out quickly as to whether or not your current skill position players can get it done or not.

His ascension is grossly impressive when you factor in the amount of drops we've had this year.

Some of the off-schedule throws are unbelievable.  The throw to Agnew when he had to escape the pass rush and roll to his left, and he saw the defender's back turned to him, and the throw to Marvin Jones where he was rolling out to his right and threw an absolute dime.  And the long pass where Zay Jones got interfered with- to make that throw while he's moving to his left- that is some unbelievable quarterbacking talent.

I don't expect as much success this week because Dallas has a much better defense than Tennessee.  But he's shown the ability to be the best QB in the league.  I look at the video above and say, how can anyone possibly play QB any better than that?

Again, I expect a big letdown this week, because that's the way it goes this year.

Oh and Engram, someone give that guy a new contract.

NFL Research: Evan Engram became just the sixth Jaguars tight end to eclipse the 100-yard mark and joined Todd Christensen, Kellen Winslow, Shannon Sharpe, Darren Waller, and Travis Kelce as the only tight ends since 1950 with 10-plus receptions, 150-plus receiving yards, and two-plus receiving TDs in a game.

I respect the opinions of those who wish to praise Coughlin's career in it's entirety.

I chose to focus on the part of his career that effected my time as a fan of the team.

We can agree to disagree.

Again, at the end of the day, his blunders worked out in our favor, so it's not like I've got pitchforks in my garage that I sharpen every night after the kids go to bed...
