No one is giving up a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land at 70 years of age. It's too prestigious a post and most are still very sharp mentally at that age. So, even if the Dems want it to happen badly, I don't believe Sotomayor's ego and personal desires are going to allow that to happen.
Clarence Thomas might be wise to step down in the next few years though, but we'll see. At this moment, I'd bet he holds on as long as possible as well.

The Dems actually have a 51-49 majority in the senate until these recent election winners take office. That's where all this wishful thinking is coming from on social media. I saw another one posit that Joe should step down as president and allow Kamala to assume the role until January 20th making her the 47th President and forcing Trump to change all of his merchandise indicating 45 & 47 to 45 & 48. This is who Dems are though. Petty, overly emotional and authoritarian to the bitter end. I recall the time Dems left office after Clinton when G.W. Bush was elected and they removed all the "W" keys from all the keyboards on their way out the door among other things. This mindset has no business being anywhere near power.

I heard something on TV last night. The day Kamela had 70,000+ people at the White House for her shin dig she did not invite Joe. This is beyond rude. Halfway through this event is when Joe called the Trump people garbage. You think Joe and Jill got together and decided that would be the cost of disrespecting him? The guy has been in politics since like 72. he at times does know what he is doing.
