Poor guy. Expect Uri to be pilloried for this.

I’ve Been at NPR for 25 Years. Here’s How We Lost America’s Trust.

Uri Berliner, a veteran at the public radio institution, says the network lost its way when it started telling listeners how to think.

Like many unfortunate things, the rise of advocacy took off with Donald Trump. As in many newsrooms, his election in 2016 was greeted at NPR with a mixture of disbelief, anger, and despair. (Just to note, I eagerly voted against Trump twice but felt we were obliged to cover him fairly.) But what began as tough, straightforward coverage of a belligerent, truth-impaired president veered toward efforts to damage or topple Trump’s presidency.

Persistent rumors that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia over the election became the catnip that drove reporting. At NPR, we hitched our wagon to Trump’s most visible antagonist, Representative Adam Schiff.

Schiff, who was the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, became NPR’s guiding hand, its ever-present muse. By my count, NPR hosts interviewed Schiff 25 times about Trump and Russia. During many of those conversations, Schiff alluded to purported evidence of collusion. The Schiff talking points became the drumbeat of NPR news reports.

But when the Mueller report found no credible evidence of collusion, NPR’s coverage was notably sparse. Russiagate quietly faded from our programming.

It is one thing to swing and miss on a major story. Unfortunately, it happens. You follow the wrong leads, you get misled by sources you trusted, you’re emotionally invested in a narrative, and bits of circumstantial evidence never add up. It’s bad to blow a big story.

What’s worse is to pretend it never happened, to move on with no mea culpas, no self-reflection. Especially when you expect high standards of transparency from public figures and institutions, but don’t practice those standards yourself. That’s what shatters trust and engenders cynicism about the media.

Russiagate was not NPR’s only miscue...

He actually, is your point, or an excellent example thereof.  A true believer, unquestioningly absorbing and regurgitating whatever he is spoon-fed by the leftist media.  Consumed by his TDS, he remains oblivious to reality, while Biden & Co. drive the country over a cliff.

Her point is that the lady should have more self control to not let the news affect her state of mind, regardless of what the news is.  I disagree with her point.  Drastic news like 9/11 for instance should cause us to feel urgency. Disengaging from current events a little bit might be a good idea for some, but disengaging completely is a bad idea for everyone.
So my point is the news wouldn't be as hard for her to handle if Trump wasn't deliberately and egotistically manipulating it.
And anyhow I've never really shared my emotional state here.  My writing here is either direct statements of fact or Socratic type questions, none of which has anything to do with my emotional state.  You guys trigger me much more than Trump does, but it doesn't change what I say.
The fact that I stick around and use so many words is just stubbornness, not distress.

Nowhere did I say anyone should completely disengage from being informed. I said they should find another source. No one shouldn't be obsessed with what anyone says in the media or otherwise. Nothing Biden or Trump or any of them are going to cause me to lose my [BLEEP]. They're not worth it.

9/11 was extremely important to me and directly impacted me because I knew my (then) husband and our good friends would be going to war. Though at times I did stay glued to the news I didn't let it disrupt my life anymore than it actually did because there was nothing to gain from freaking out about it. It probably helped that by that time I was a former soldier as it gave me perspective others didn't. I'm also a practical minded person and that makes a difference in how I react to situations.

The whole of 2020 and the extracurricular activities of blm and antifa were extremely stressful to watch and read about but I stayed informed and didn't allow it to affect my mental health or disrupt my life anymore than the inconvenience of the lockdowns. If anyone is allowing any of the news to cause that much distress then a counselor is in order.

Despite all our rage we're still just rats in a cage. The Smashing Pumpkins had it right.
