(05-15-2021, 11:24 AM)mikesez Wrote: [ -> ]Critical theory is just the idea that the laws and structures of society were set up by the powerful to preserve the advantage of the powerful.
This theory has no place in an elementary or a middle school social studies class.
Those kids need to learn what the rules organizing society are, not to question the why of the rules.
I suppose critical theory could inform parts of a middle school level history class, help kids understand why the society was the way it was, but it should by no means be the focus of the class. And it shouldn't be part of a high school level civics class.
Critical theory concepts, including critical race theory, should be discussed at the college level.

I almost agree with you. CRT is not something that should be taught at any level. What does it accomplish other than division between races? If that's going to be taught then critical theory should be taught about every people group and that's not possible. Racism is not the only issue in America, it's only highlighted because it serves an agenda.

I will say here what I've said in another thread; it begins at home. If people treated each other as they want to be treated that would solve so many problems regardless of race, culture, socioeconomic status, gender, etc. Sadly that's not the world we live in. There is a lady on my Nextdoor app who was shaming another woman for filling gas cans at a gas station a few days ago after filling her car. I asked her if she knew why the woman had done that and she said she didn't. I pointed out it's possible the lady's teenage son cuts yards for neighbors for extra cash and she was filling the gas cans for him. I told her it's attitudes like hers (speaking without knowing facts) that divides our society and her reply was that people don't speak up enough with facts and she's just levelling the playing field. That is one of many issues wrong with people. They think two wrongs will make a right. And this woman is raising kids that will think and act just like her and they'll go out and treat people like complete trash for no reason. IT STARTS AT HOME.

CRT should be taught in college as an idea that people need to know about.  NOT that it is necessarily true and correct, but it's an idea that is going around and here's what it is.  And here's what people are saying about it.

It does exist.  Learning what it is would be just part of a basic college education.
Teaching people to not be racist creates more racist people.
CRT is designed to overthrow the capitalist system. The only reason it should be taught is to make people aware of its purpose.

Julian Edelman pointed out the people are not their governments and I agree. More often than not we are at the mercy of decisions our government makes by people who have no idea who they're representing (they're out of touch), they're not (as) affected by their decisions, and they have agendas. Trump policies may have been good for the country but his mouth and twitter account were not. Yes, he was putting truth out there the MSM would have not reported, but the guy needed to tone it down. A LOT. Now we have an administration whose mouthpiece is obviously suffering from old age issues and can't seem to function and the policies, only some advantageous for select people groups, are on the whole extremely bad for the country overall. Either way it's divisive to the nth degree with big tech and MSM stirring the pot.

I'm sure there are Palestinians who want nothing more than to just live their lives and let everyone live theirs and they're the ones who are suffering in this thanks to Hamas.

I'm not well versed in the whole Palestinian/Israeli thing so if anyone has a relatively unbiased source to read about it I'm down for reading it. This is something I've never really quite understood, their conflict.

The current flare up is because some Arabs might get evicted because Jews are claiming ownership of their houses based on some 100 year old deeds, even though the Arabs have been in those homes going on 70 years.
That might sound like a boring landlord/tenant dispute, except, there are plenty of Arabs who can prove they used to own homes that are now occupied by Jews, and, they don't get to evict anyone, the judges aren't on their side. Since 1920, Jews have been evicting Arabs. Arabs evicted some Jews before 1949, but not since.

The key to understanding the whole thing is that it's a war zone.  The other Arab states got involved in '48, '67, and '73, but the Palestinians have been at war constantly.  The entire time, and now.  Block by block.  And they always lose.  The whole thing sucks.
Journalism is dead.
Like? I freaking LOVE your Governor.

I didn't understand it either, so I did some googling and found that the apparent cause is Israelis evicting Palestinians from their homes which appears to violate international law. The UN think Israel is in the wrong in this situation.

Can you find an instance where the UN ever thought Israel was right?

Does the UN voting to actually establish the Jewish State count? Resolution 181 was rejected by the Arab states but voted in favour by the UN.

So uh...1947? Great, thanks for proving the point. Then go through the list and see how many times you find "Deplores Israel" or Condemns Israel" and get back to me.

Oh wait, that's always the Jews fault. Shame on them for existing and such.

I appreciate you thanking me for proving you wrong.  Most other people try to retort with some incoherent rambling to defend their stance.

Yeah, 1 vote for and 1500 against. Clearly this refutes my point.

Lol, one of these things is not like the other.
So it's all coming to light and is just reassuring what most of us already knew..

That the January 6th insurrection on the capitol was pretty much lead by antifa/blm
