That's your government a work.
I think you guys are partially right. There has been a push to make socialism a religion since Gramsci. You're seeing the effects of that now. The left started finding it's foothold with the LGBTQ+ and Civil Rights movements, and they have been turning them into belief systems. The people you see grandstanding are just proselytizing. They are the new priest class. Unfortunately, our moderates can't see it for what it is, and continue to allow this new religion to merge with the state. Stop tolerating this nonsense.

You're also partially right.
Marx emphasized atheism, but he also used religious literary forms like the jeremiad, the parable, the prophetic vision, and the apocalypse. So the idea that they are not eliminating religion but rather creating a new religion, is very natural in Marxism.  No one needed to invent that.

So you're right that the left is kind of creating this priestly class, but I think calling them priests might be misdirection.  Priests assuage and console the people, telling them theyre on the right track.  Evangelist also misses the point.  Evangelists may say provocative things, but they actually believe them, and they are fully endorsed by the group that sent them.  Our situation is a bit more chaotic.  We have unendorsed evangelists, so to speak.  We have the people Achebe called "the one who mourns louder than the bereaved." And we have them on both sides.  The Republican party and the Democratic party both have their own unendorsed evangelists playing their own role.  One role they have is actually comforting the rest of us.  They let us say to ourselves, "I may not be sure about everything, but at least I'm not crazy like THOSE people."  Which is why we share what they do on Twitter and stuff.  We don't agree with them, but they make us feel better about ourselves by comparison.

Side note: I have hear about enough of people like doctors, police and nurses bringing up their long shifts and asking for our sympathy when we call them out on their mistakes.
I think it's dishonest.
If you really think the long shifts are causing you to make mistakes and behave badly, demand an 8 hour shift like the rest of us work.  Maybe hospitals and police stations should have 3 shift changes a day instead of 2.  Try it.

I'm assuming you aren't referencing the PA in this story.

No, but I am referencing the lawyer she hired:

Quote:Her attorney, Justin Marino, said Comrie is six months pregnant and had just finished a 12-hour shift prior to the viral footage.

If the lawyer actually thinks she did nothing wrong,  he wouldn't make these excuses for her.
And if either of them really thought "12 hour shift" was an excuse for bad behavior, they would be demanding a change to the shift policy.

What was her bad behavior? She was accosted by a group of young men who accused her of theft. Her receipts show she was right and they were wrong. The bad behavior was conducted by the guys and Ben Crump. Agree?

Maybe.  It's not relevant to my point, either way.
My point's not about this particular case. I have seen people saying woe is me about their 12 hour shifts over and over and none of them do anything about it. The lawyer wouldn't have said it if it wasn't already a pervasive meme in society.

Everyone is.  You wouldn't have shared the story in the first place if you weren't bitter about something having to do with lawsuits or allegations of racism.

Because that's real thing to be bitter about. Your grievance is oddly specific. Spill it, Mike.

Is it? There was one time where "I got accused of racism" came up at the church group / family gathering / guys night/ whatever I was attending, while, "these 12 hour shifts are really grinding down our family life" or "the quality of the nurses, even the same nurse from one day to the next was really inconsistent" or "I had to change my entire career to get to a more reasonable 8 hr shift" seems to come up every other gathering, at least in my circle.

I mean they're all great stories and you feel for the people involved, but one is much more common than the other.

Are you really saying I'm partially right because you want to quibble over the definition of priest? You almost never add anything substantive to a discussion, bro. Now I have to talk about how we define the word "Priest," just because you want to wax intelligent. A priest, according to meriam webster, is a person who is authorized to perform the sacred rites of a religion, especially as a mediatory agent between humans and God. Because your incapable of getting a point, now I have to probably defend the OBVIOUS point that they don't believe in God, don't I?

The point I am making that you choose to overlook is that LGTBQ and Racist activism are cut from the same cloth as any other religion. It's designed to make believers, which is why you see these people acting like nutjobs. Your job, as an "intellectual" moderate is to tell these nutjobs to keep their religion out of the state, but we can't do that, can we? Because you're not principled or courageous enough to see it for what it is. I don't mind them praying to their god. However, I want them to avoid making policies based on their beliefs. The massive majority should be coming together on this, but we can't, because the moderates are neglecting their duties.

You totally missed the point I made.
Let me condense it.

Quote:The Republican party and the Democratic party both have their own unendorsed evangelists playing their own role.

I suggest we ignore such people, and only share what they say if we agree with it.  Avoid sharing it ironically. That's all.

Then after you missed my point, you said that I should be telling other people to "keep their religion out of the state".  That's appealing enough as a motto, but it's not really what the 1st amendment says.  Progressives would love to silence my beliefs about sexuality and abortion by saying "no religion in politics!"  I can retort with "your beliefs are also religious in nature," but, agreeing with them that religion must be completely away from politics will hurt my agenda more than it hurts theirs.
Let me rephrase. I don't mind them talking about their god. I don't mind them advancing their belief system. I don't think it should be taught in school as a truth. I don't think it should be institutionalized in our military or government agencies. It's a religion. Believe what you want to believe, but let's get it out of our systems. And, no, I am not talking about basic demagoguery or rhetoric. This is a different animal, and it belongs in the realm of religion.
