We were always brought to the room and paddled in front of the class. My 4th grade teacher was a tiny lady so she always outsourced it to her husband the Assistant Principal. He's the only one that ever really hurt, I think he was more mad at her for making him do it than us for anything we did wrong. The other one that wasn't good was when they did collar checks for our hair length. Third warning that it was too long was 3 swats by the Principal right there on the sidewalk outside the class room. He swung hard but there wasn't any emotion behind it like the VP had.

Honestly I was all in favor of spanking my kids, until recently. My son has only ever gotten a "spanking" on the top of his hand, after I tell him what he did wrong and I make him present it to me. But what's most effective with him is simply raising my voice. He pays attention quick.
But my daughter doesn't even get any swats anymore. She used to get all sorts of spankings, and they worked for a while, but now she simply does not respond to spankings no matter where you hit her or how hard, so what's the point? Nothing really works with her besides taking away privileges, and that doesn't even work until she calms down.
But YMMV. I'm neurodivergent, and getting violent with kids is not really a permission I should be giving myself. So that was another reason to stop.

Having some challenges with my almost three year old son. Instead of yelling or being physical with him anymore I just resort to scare tactics and teasing. I have a Halloween mask I can scare the [BLEEP] out of him with or I'll just give him a look and start teasing him for being a brat. He normally shapes up after that.
I learned that from my Dad. You reserve your bellowing for more severe times. You especially reserve the belt or physical punishment for extreme times. It's been tough sometimes though. I used to laugh when my parents would beat me and say that it hurts them more than it hurts me.
I actually believe that now. The amount of guilt I feel after popping him is profound at times. Obviously I stone face and go full on stoic around him but, man, behind closed doors with my own thoughts to reflect on everything? It sucks. I hate it.

Yep. And if you flipped this the other way around it would be the cancel culture and alphabet soup police calling congress to act upon it. She incited violence there. Jokingly or not. The tone was there. The silence was there and then it was the "oops.. perhaps I have gone too far.. JK, JK".

And this is the problem. Imo, she was clearly joking, but this doesn't go both ways. If famous pro-lifer suggested something similar, in a similar way, I don't think it would go so hot.

We have multiple instances of anti abortion zealots committing acts of terrorism in hopes of punishing or discouraging abortion.
Can you name even a single instance of a pro abortion person getting violent against an anti abortion person?
I oppose abortion. I don't think it should be legal in most cases. But I also know what kind of people are on my side on the issue. Sad!

Truly amazing. It took 14 minutes from the time of the 911 call for them to get to the school, find the shooter, and kill him/her.
