Kids under 18 shouldn't receive hormones that create cross-gender secondary sex characteristics. A deeper voice is forever. A chest is never the same after breasts grow, even if they are removed later. It is very hard to permanently remove facial hair after facial hair starts to grow.
This kid proves that.
But she also received puberty blockers. While those may have been a "gateway drug" to these other interventions, the puberty blockers on their own did no permanent damage to her.

I think the military made it quite clear at the time that they would not be a party to such a thing. So, he didn't really have that option.

No, we don't. Not in my opinion. The institutions in this country are too strong for that to happen. Even Trump appointed judges threw out his stolen election claims.
