On this you and I just fundamentally disagree.

My position is that people like President Obama and President Trump are afforded a certain level of respect due to the position that they held.  It might be perceived as "special treatment" by some, but that is something that they have both earned.  (By the way... both men earned the title of "President".  In my opinion the title should be used whenever someone speaks about either one of them).

Being famous or rich has nothing to do with it.  It's all about the respect for the position that they once held.

When I was in the military, I had commanding officers that I despised, yet I always greeted them with a proper salute and addressed them appropriately.  It's not about the person, it's about the position.

Again, the bond and mug shot were inappropriate and totally unnecessary.  It's clear that it was political in order to humiliate.

If their treatment differs from that of others, it is "special" by definition of the word.  If you believe special treatment can and should be earned, the question becomes one of criteria.  Is V.P. sufficient?  How about Senator, Mayor, General, Jeff Bezos, Tom Brady, etc.?  Where do you draw the line?

The mugshot and bond were functionally superfluous, but totally appropriate legal procedure.

I agree with you.  But even if I disagreed it just isn't a big deal either way.

Hell, I think Trump planned on scowling at the camera to sell merch. That's his world.

The same thing regarding the mug shot.  He is one of the most recognizable people in the country and is not a flight risk.

Both things are purely political stunts meant to humiliate him, nothing more.  Like him or hate him he deserves the proper respect.  I would say the same thing if something like this was done to President Obama.

Is your position that people like Obama or Trump should get special treatment not granted ordinary citizens because…they’re famous? Have money? Held office?

Yeah, Presidents are surrounded by law enforcement officers 24/7 for the rest of their lives. Bond is to ensure the accused appears. They aren't everyone else, none of us live that way. It's theater, nothing more.

Lol.
I think if all else fails, trump should strike a deal. Basically he agrees to not run for president, and they leave him alone for life. Maybe they put him on house arrest if need be. That’s if it looks like he’s in deep and can’t win legally.

That's my ideal as well, but as I understand, the prosecutor can only offer that deal if one of the penalties in one of the laws he's accused of violating is a bar on public service.  There's also the dual sovereignty problem.  A deal with the Georgia prosecutor won't be binding on federal prosecutors in any way.  Our legal system just wasn't set up to provide this remedy. Impeachment was the remedy.  7 republican senators understood that.  But we needed 17.

$700

This local says even the mayor becomes confrontational when asked about the number of dead. Puzzling.

Newsmax just confirmed 115 dead and something like 388 still missing..

Active shooter here locally. Started at a Dollar General on Kings Rd. White male, AR15 apparently.

Found it fascinatingly odd that Mayor Deegan and the local rep were on the scene in front of the NBC news crew though already talking about gun reform and laws.

The shooter is still active guys. In what way does any of this make sense? The timing seems completely off and reckless...

Well. I just get tired of the blatant narrative pushing. I follow a lot of local pages on Instagram. There's shootings all the damn time here. Especially on the westside. That shooting at Ribault HS just happened a week or two ago.

The gang violence is bad. Doesn't get the attention it deserves. When it's a cracker with an AR15 though? Lights! Camera! Action!

Everything is a production with them. J6, Trump Indictments, Covid.. Nothing but Democrat Productions. It wouldn't surprise me if it was actually staged. Just another production and a reason to push her gun grabbing agenda.

Rumors it was supposed to happen nearby but security stopped it. Will be a hate crime and that will be played up for a while.

Will most likely find out he was mentally ill, already know he lived with parents, and was actually a liberal and if not was definitely groomed into the shooting.

I understand what you’re saying about respect for the office. Having served in the military myself, I get that.

Here’s where we disagree. Respect and even a certain amount of deference shouldn’t shield anyone from the reasonable expectation that they’ll adhere to tradition, procedure and protocol, even when it’s painful. In short, they’re not above it. Our nation is built upon the idea that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law and they should all be treated equally.
